2020 NFL mock draft: Jordan Love heads to Patriots
By Brad Weiss
The New England Patriots parted ways with a legend this offseason, as Tom Brady will make Tampa Bay his new home as starting quarterback of the Buccaneers. While the Bucs are gaining a legend, the Patriots now have a gaping hole at the quarterback position, unless you consider Jarrett Stidham a via option to take over.
Looking at the roster, Stidham and Brian Hoyer are not legitimate options heading into next season, especially with Bill Belichick trying to prove that he can win without Brady. The Patriots have to be in the market to upgrade the quarterback position, and they can do so by adding Utah State’s Jordan Love at No. 23 overall.
This kid possesses the kind of pure quarterbacking talent that you can build a franchise around, and Belichick’s system is one where he could step in and lead right away. Sure, there may be some bumps in Year 1, but this kid is going in the first round, and if available, it will be hard for Belichick to pass him up.
The New Orleans Saints will have Drew Brees back under center this season, as the team signed him to a brand new two-year deal this offseason. With Brees back, the Saints are automatically one of the better teams in football, and they will be looking to get him his second ring before he hangs them up for good.
Looking at this roster, the Saints have needs on both sides of the ball, but they should really focus on this deep wide receiver draft class this April. Tee Higgins from Clemson is a guy who is destined to land in the first round, and despite not the best Pro Day, there is no way he falls any later than the Saints here at No. 24.
Higgins is a big-bodied receiver who can go up and make the big plays, and would be a perfect compliment on the other side of Michael Thomas moving forward. There is a small window left for Brees to win his second ring, and they get a championship-level player in Higgins here at No. 24 overall.
