Best-case scenario

There is a world where the Tigers could go into the 2020-21 college basketball season as one of the top-ranked teams in the country. It’s all about how the dominoes fall for Auburn as the offseason progresses.

Unless something dramatic changes, five-star point guard Sharife Cooper will be suiting up for Pearl in the upcoming season. Given the departure of Doughty, the No. 19 overall recruit in the 247Sports Composite Rankings figures to be the starter at point guard. He’s already the highest-rated recruit in the history of Auburn basketball and, subsequently, he gives them a strong baseline.

What could swing this class even further, however, is if they’re able to strengthen their recruiting class even further with five-star combo guard Jalen Green, the No. 3 overall player in the class, and forward Greg Brown, who ranks No. 9 overall in the 2020 class. Both of those players joining the Tigers with Cooper would be a coup for Pearl and his staff.

But if we’re talking about the absolute best-case scenario for the Tigers, the cherry on top of that would be Okoro returning for his sophomore season. The wing is currently just testing the waters and, if he isn’t assured he’s a lottery pick, he could return for another year in college. Should that happen along with a recruiting class featuring three top-20 overall players, Auburn would be sitting pretty.
