5 teams who should pay Phillip Lindsay what he’s worth
1. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Buccaneers aren’t going to give up on Ronald Jones, who showed some promise on his way to over 1,000 yards from scrimmage last year. But adding reinforcements to bolster what has been a lackluster rushing attack is a clear need, with backs that have a pass-catching tilt likely on their radar in the draft.
Tampa Bay has spent plenty of the ample cap space they went into free agency with. Tom Brady is the clear centerpiece of their offseason, but there is room to make some further veteran additions. Of course Lindsay is not expensive this year, and in 2021 the Buccaneers project to have a lot of cap space.
Lindsay has been a bit underutilized as a pass catcher in Denver (3.1 targets per game). But that would not be an issue in a Brady-led Buccaneers offense over the next couple years (or beyond?). As Tampa Bay pushes their chips to the middle of the table while Brady is the quarterback, they have to strike when opportunities surface. An effort to trade for Lindsay soon should not be ruled out, and even if they wait until next offseason the Buccaneers can make him their lead back for the next chunk of years quite easily.
