Miami Dolphins

Miami invested heavily in edge rushers during free agency. The Dolphins made the questionable decision to pay Shaq Lawson $10 million per year and signed Emmanuel Ogbah to a more prudent two-year, $15m contract.

The axiom that you can never have too many pass rushers applies to a Dolphins team that finished 2019 with a dismal 23 sacks.

Even after their free-agency splurge, the Dolphins still possess just over $33 million in cap space. That is ample room to ink Ngakoue to a long-term deal and, with three of their 14 selections in this year’s draft coming in round one, the Dolphins have the draft capital to strike a trade.

The Dolphins’ rebuilding plan is a long way from bearing fruit in terms of Miami becoming a contender. Their timeline to competing in the postseason would be accelerated if the Dolphins can find a long-term answer at quarterback and land a stud pass rusher.

Miami could theoretically do both in the space of a few weeks by using the fifth overall pick and sending another of their first-round selections to Jacksonville for Ngakoue.

This is a team on an upward trajectory under Brian Flores and hopes of a return to contention would grow further with Ngakoue on the roster.
