Fifth Round

RB. Lamical Perine. 840. Scouting Report. player. Pick Analysis. Florida. 151

The Chargers have Ekeler and Jackson on their roster right now in the backfield and little else. They could look to free agency for a productive piece, or they could look for a cheaper late-round draft option. Florida’s Lamical Perine was a quality college back and should be available in this area.

Perine doesn’t have blazing speed (4.62 40-yard dash), but his quick play recognition helps him overcome that. He can be viewed as more of a grinder at the NFL due to that lack of burst too, which could be a great role for him to fill with the Chargers. Perine has prototypical running back size for today’s game and could be used as a short yardage and red zone power runner.

Sixth Round

Mykal Walker. player. Pick Analysis. Fresno State. LB. 186. 897. Scouting Report

Even if the Chargers select a linebacker earlier in the draft, they could add more depth. Fresno State’s Mykal Walker began his career at Asuza Pacific before transferring, but he made quite the impact.

In 2018, Walker was voted first-team All-Mountain West and team Defensive MVP as he tallied 87 tackles, 4.5 sacks, an interception, six pass breakups, two blocked kicks, and two forced fumbles. In 12 games as a senior, he added 96 more tackles to again lead the Bulldogs.

Seventh Round

TE. Stephen Sullivan. 220. player. 817. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LSU

Hunter Henry and Virgil Green are a good tight end duo, but the Chargers may look for a younger player to add to the mix. Stephen Sullivan could step up as a receiving threat for Los Angeles.

If Sullivan is able to add a bit more weight, his in-line blocking would likely improve and would make him a more versatile piece. The Chargers can afford to take a risk with their last pick in the draft on a player with a high upside.
