6. John Tavares – 2016 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals, Game 6

Before earning the mantle of Judas among hockey fans on the Island, John Tavares provided the New York Islanders faithful with one of their most memorable moments in recent history.

In game six of the 2016 Eastern Conference Quarterfinals vs the Florida Panthers, Tavares took it upon himself to end the Islanders’ 23-year drought without a playoff series victory.

With one goal already in the game, Tavares took a pass in the Panthers’ zone, fired a shot on Roberto Luongo, gathered his own rebound, swooped around the Panthers’ net and deposited the puck into the open net from his knees. The former captain was swarmed by his teammates that the Barclays Center got as loud as its ever been in its short lifespan of hosting hockey.

Tavares was an absolute workhorse in the six game series, tallying five goals, four assists and gobbling up 25:17 of ice time per game. This goal was the culmination of one of the best single series efforts in recent playoff history. Heading into the series there was much hype surrounding Tavares and what he could do in his first playoff series.

He certainly didn’t disappoint.
