4. Adam Henrique – 2012 Eastern Conference Final, Game 6

Every once in a while, a team comes along that seemingly has no business hanging around as long as they do. The 2011-12 New Jersey Devils are that team.

Outside of Zach Parise, Patrick Elias and Ilya Kovalchuk, this Devils team significantly lacked star power, iced a top defensive pair of Adam Larsson and Mark Fayne and was backstopped by 39-year-old Martin Brodeur.

That being said, the Devils tore through the Stanley Cup playoffs, racking up upsets against the Florida Panthers, Philadelphia Flyers and New York Rangers along the way to a Stanley Cup Final appearance. They doubled down on their historic tendency to play exquisite team defense and got timely goals from their aforementioned stars, as well as role players like David Clarkson, Bryce Salvador and Adam Henrique.

Henrique’s OT winner was notable for not only sending the Devils to the Cup, but also for the controlled chaos of the play.

Aided by Doc Emrick’s frantic call and triumphant declaration of “it’s over!”, the Henrique goal shows that not every memorable goal is a masterpiece. In fact, more often than not, they are the result of an ugly, hectic anxiety-inducing play such as this.

But that’s what we love.
