player. 156. 6-foot-9 | F/C. Dayton. Obi Toppin. 6. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Obi Toppin was one of the best players in college basketball, winner of the National Player of the Year, among other awards. He was the best player on the best offense in college basketball, which runs an NBA system. He could be a pick-and-roll partner for Darius Garland, and has the court vision to hit open shooters like Collin Sexton. He won’t provide much of a punch defensively, but could be the heir apparent to Kevin Love at power forward in Cleveland.

At 6-foot-9 with a 6-foot-11 wingspan, Toppin may be able to play some center, but he projects as an offensive power forward due to defensive concerns. It’s really difficult to see Toppin ever anchoring a defense, but in this draft he’s probably still worth a top-eight selection due to his translatable offense. Toppin shot 39 percent from 3 this season.
