player. Pick Analysis. 6-foot-3 | G. Tyrese Maxey. 142. Scouting Report. Kentucky. 9

John Wall‘s contract is the only thing certain about his future with the Washington Wizards. If Wall can get healthy, Tyrese Maxey represents a solid backup option to learn from a fellow John Calipari product while waiting in the wings to take over the Washington backcourt someday. Maxey projects as a lead shot creator but not necessarily an elite one or one that requires a super-high usage rate. As a good defender, he may just need to be decent at facilitating while improving his shooting to become a player worthy of 30-plus minutes a night down the road.

Better suited next to a primary playmaker, the fit with Bradley Beal would be quite ideal if Maxey pans out and Wall is out of the equation somehow. If Wall is healthy, Maxey can function as a combo guy or an undersized wing off the bench. His defense will make him playable as long as he shoots a little bit.
