St. Louis Blues: Top 5 takeaways from the 2019-20 season so far

4. Jordan Binnington is legit
Last year’s Stanley Cup run was made possible by the heroics of one Jordan Binnington. The 26-year-old rookie goaltender put up a stellar performance in the back half of last season to drag the Blues to the postseason, with a .927 save percentage and 24 wins in 32 games played.
Binnington followed up that regular season performance with a .914 save percentage in the playoffs as the team’s starting goaltender, winning 16 of 26 games played to help the Blues cross the finish line on a magical season.
The Matt Murray-esque type rise from Binnington last year was no fluke, it seems. In the 2019-20 season, Binnington has been one of the best goaltenders in the NHL, posting a .912 save percentage with 30 wins in 50 games played. Plus, Binnington is one of three goaltenders alongside Andrei Vasilevskiy and Connor Hellebuyck to post above 30 wins this season.
Binnington also is in the NHL’s top 10 in terms of time on ice this season for goaltenders, sitting in sixth place alongside league veterans such as Marc-Andre Fleury and John Gibson.
The 26-year-old netminder came out of nowhere last year to take the league by storm, but it’s clear that Binnington is here to stay as a legitimate starting goaltender in the NHL.
