4. FS Marcus Maye

When you share the last line of defense with arguably the premier player at his position, getting a little attention isn’t always easy. But for New York Jets’ defensive back Marcus Maye, it’s a matter of just getting the job done without a lot of fanfare.

In 2017, then-general manager Mike Maccagnan used the sixth overall selection in the draft on strong safety Jamal Adams (LSU) and then followed that up in the second round with the addition of Maye (Florida) via the 39th overall pick. Adams Has been named to the last two Pro Bowls and earned All-Pro honors in 2019.

Maye comes off an injury-shortened ’18 and started all 16 games for the second times in three years. He finished fourth on the club with 63 tackles and tied for the club lead (with Adams) with seven passes defensed.

Maye played at a high level the previous year when various ailments caused him to miss 10 games. Now more than a year removed from those injuries, it could be a career year for the solid performer. The 27-year-old pro enters the final year of his rookie contract and it will be interesting to see if general manager Joe Douglas and the organization extends him before the start of the 2020.
