4. Florida State Seminoles

Remember when Florida State was ranked in the top 5 for an entire decade? Remember when they won the ACC seemingly every year? Remember when the Seminoles had Heisman contenders, an NFL-ready defense and national title aspirations?

It really wasn’t long ago when Florida State won the national title behind a freshman Heisman winner in Jameis Winston, but it might feel like an eternity for the FSU fans who had to endure the end of the Jimbo Fisher era and the regrettable Willie Taggart era.

The losses piled up and the fans ran out of patience. I don’t blame them. Florida State football has been a nightmare to watch and I’m not a die-hard fan.

Clemson runs the ACC and is basically what Florida State used to be. Now, they need to emulate Clemson and do what Dabo Swinney has done if they’re ever going to reclaim control of the ACC, or at least, win eight games each year.

Hope has been renewed following the hire of Mike Norvell who was great at Memphis and should go a long way toward getting the program out of the Taggart mess. But it’s going to take a few exceptional recruiting classes before that is felt on the field. It’s going to be a rough 2020 for Florida State. They’ll get a lot of chatter in the preseason about how they’re closing the gap on Clemson and they may be the second-best team in the division and should be in the Top 25, but I don’t see it.

Florida State football is overrated.
