Early on in 2019, John Harbaugh’s club was struggling on the defensive side of the football. After smoking the Miami Dolphins and knocking off the Arizona Cardinals in their first two outings, the Ravens lost consecutive games to the Kansas City Chiefs and Cleveland Browns and allowed more than 500 total yards in each of those setbacks.

\Eventually, general manager Eric DeCosta would swing a deal to bring play-making cornerback Marcus Peters to Baltimore. He made his debut in Week 7 at Seattle, had an immediate impact with an interception return for a score. This was a different looking defense for the vast majority of the remainder of the season.

This past season, safety Chuck Clark started a career-best 12 games and would lead the Ravens with 68 tackles. He also finished third on the club in passes defensed (9) behind cornerbacks Marlon Humphrey (14) and Peters (10). As documented by Pro Football Focus (subscription required), the three-year pro’s forte is pass coverage.

Meanwhile, Clark could use some work when it comes to stopping the run. And perhaps a little more work against his own offense will help in the long run. He’s a player that bears watching, especially if he can find a little more balance to his game.
