Round 2

Cleveland will have two new faces manning the back of its secondary in 2020 after adding Andrew Sendejo and Karl Joseph in free agency. But with both signed only on one-year deals, safety figures to be a pressing need in the first few rounds of the 2020 NFL Draft.

Cal safety Ashtyn Davis has been one of the position group’s biggest risers during the draft process and is likely to hear his name called by the end of the second round at the latest. Davis (6-foot-1, 200 pounds) was one of the Pac-12’s best defensive players over the last two seasons at safety after beginning his college career as a cornerback.

He possesses unbelievable speed (his background as a collegiate track athlete certainly helps illustrate that) and was extremely productive for the Golden Bears, logging six total interceptions in his junior and senior seasons.

Davis’ recent injury history didn’t allow him to fully test at the Combine, which could hurt his draft stock a bit given the implications COVID-19 has had on the draft process. It could be the perfect storm for the Browns to swoop in and make Davis their selection in the second round.
