3. Penn State

If this list was going by the most enjoyable atmospheres to watch on TV, it would take the number one spot no question. The whiteouts that happen inside of Beaver stadium every year are one of the best things about college football. But the recent lack of winning games inside that stadium leads to the Nittany Lions taking a little bit of a hit in the rankings.

To be exact Penn State is 62-15 when playing at Beaver Stadium in the past decade. This number might not seem too bad, but the history of the top two teams combined with a stout defense of their home turf was too much for Penn State to overtake.  James Franklin has brought the Nittany Lions back a long way since almost receiving the death penalty, but he’ll even tell you it isn’t where everyone wants it to be yet.

Make no mistake though, Penn State still has an unbelievable home-field advantage, even when there isn’t a whiteout, this is one of the toughest places to play in college football. It seats 106,572 people, which is No. 2 is the nation and No. 4 in the world. If you ever get to drive past it, it’s in the middle of nowhere in the college town of University Park, Pennsylvania. An odd spot for one of the biggest stadiums in the world.

All of this is the allure of Beaver Stadium though. The white outs, the sheer size of it, the location, and the history of the program all add up to take a top spot on this list.
