Fantasy football 2020 AFC East preview and breakdown
By Bill Pivetz
QB: Jarrett Stidham
RBs: Sony Michel, James White
WRs: N’Keal Harry, Julian Edelman, Mohamed Sanu
TEs: Matt LaCosse
The Patriots are entering a new chapter in their franchise. It will be the first season since 2000 without Brady as the starting quarterback. This doesn’t give me much optimism for most of the offensive weapons.
Multiple sources list Stidham as the starter with Brian Hoyer as the backup. In his three college seasons, he threw for 7,217 yards, 48 touchdowns and 13 interceptions. He did a good job protecting the ball but there’s a gap in skill level between college and NFL. Stidham is not worth drafting outside deep 2QB leagues.
As a result of the QB change, Michel should have another great season. He had 247 carries for 912 yards and seven touchdowns. White will be the pass-catching back as he’s been for the last two seasons. He’s a top-25 running back in PPR leagues. Don’t forget about Rex Burkhead either.
Edelman is my top receiver from this team. While he, and the rest of the receivers, will have to develop chemistry with whoever the quarterback is, he’s as reliable as they come. The absence of Phillip Dorsett and Josh Gordon frees up targets for Sanu and sophomore receiver Harry. I wouldn’t draft either of them in most league formats.
LaCosse is not ranked on most fantasy football platforms. He’s only mentioned here because he’s the likely starter. Don’t draft him.
