3. New York Jets

The Jets have their quarterback in Sam Darnold, and general manager Joe Douglas has made it clear it’s a priority to surround him with more playmakers and protect him better.

"I think we still have a lot to do in both those regards moving forward,” Douglas said, via NJ.com. “I think we’ve done our best to attack some of the issues that we had in the past. . . . That’s our focus, doing everything we can to help Sam succeed. The one thing that we didn’t want, we didn’t want a situation where Sam was just going to have to be under fire all the time with protection issues."

The 11th-overall pick in the draft gives Douglas the opportunity to take one of the top prospects at wide receiver or offensive tackle. He can’t go wrong either way, but having four picks in the first three rounds offers the ability to wait and still get a good player from a deep wide receiver class.

Even with the virtual certainty they’ll draft a wide receiver to go with Jamison Crowder and free agent signing Breshad Perriman, the Jets shouldn’t be done bolstering the skill talent around Darnold if there are chances to do it. Perhaps their second round pick, or their extra third-round pick, would get Carolina’s attention in trade talks for Samuel.
