2020 NFL mock draft: Wide receivers dominate the first round
By Brad Weiss
The Miami Dolphins hold three first round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft, as well as 14 selections overall, so they are going to busy. Of course, they could be in the market to trade out of the first round later on, but if Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is available at No. 5, they are certainly going to stand pat and draft him.
With Tua’s injury looking more and more like it will not affect him at the next level, you have to believe he is going to be the second quarterback off the board. In fact, many feel that he could end up being the best of the bunch when all is said and done, and the Dolphins are in need of a franchise guy.
Miami played well last season despite a depleted roster, as head coach Brian Flores proved he was the right man for the job in his first year at the helm. Tua is the kind of quarterback you can build your franchise around, and in Miami, he will become a star instantly on a team on the rise.
The Los Angeles Chargers are another team looking for their new franchise quarterback, as long-time starter Philip Rivers will be moving on to Indianapolis. It is going to be odd to see someone other than Rivers under center for the Chargers next season, but they can get their next star quarterback early in round one this April.
Justin Herbert is a guy who would have been a first round pick last year, but he instead decided to go back to school for one more season and play with his brother. Him returning to school ends up working in the Chargers favor, as they get another former Oregon Duck to be their starter in 2020 and beyond.
Dan Fouts is widely considered as the best Chargers quarterback of all-time, and he can from Oregon as well. If Herbert can become half of the quarterback Fouts was, as he went to the Hall of Fame, then the Bolts would be getting a steal at the No. 6 pick overall.
