2020 NFL Draft position rankings: Top 10 quarterbacks – Burrow, Tua sure-fire studs
3. Jordan Love, Utah State
It’s been a tale of two seasons for Love. In 2018, Love completed 64 percent of his passes, threw 32 touchdowns to just six interceptions and had 8.6 yards per attempt.
It wasn’t the same deal for Love in 2019. He completed just under 62 percent of his passes but had a whopping 17 picks on the season.
So how do we contextualize the drop in production and the rise in turnovers?
Let’s start with a coaching change. Matt Wells dialed up a good offense for Love in 2018, but Gary Anderson‘s offense was predictable and wasn’t very creative. Love also lost a lot of his production and help on offense after the 2018 season, most notably running back Darwin Thompson.
What about the interceptions?
Most of these resulted in Love not recognizing defenders in underneath coverage, something he will have to work on at the next level in development. Love also played hero ball at times and knew where he was going post-snap without reading the coverage.
So why does Love get the nod at three? It’s because of the arm talent and the potential. Love can make some crazy good throws on tape. He can drop the ball in the bucket with great touch down the field and has a laser to fit the football into tight windows. Love can also make things happen on the move, throwing well on the run and while off his base. The potential with Love is sky-high.
