5. Jalen Hurts, Oklahoma

What a college career it’s been for Jalen Hurts, who is now entering the 2020 NFL Draft as a top-five player in the class. Hurts was 24-2 in his career at Alabama before being replaced by Tua Tagovailoa in the title game, and was the first to celebrate with him. Hurts came in relief in the SEC Championship a year later and led the Crimson Tide back, beating the Georgia Bulldogs.

Hurts then decided to transfer for his final season, and selected the Oklahoma Sooners to work with head coach Lincoln Riley. In his senior season, he threw for 3,851 yards and 32 touchdowns while completing nearly 70 percent of his passes.

Hurts does a lot of things well and has steadily grown as a quarterback. He can be a great distributor in the quick passing game and can throw a great deep ball. His accuracy has continued to get better as well at every level of the field. Hurts also shows great poise in the pocket and doesn’t think run first as he used to do. He still is an elite athlete in space for the position.

There are a couple of things that Hurts needs to clean up as a quarterback. The main thing is his processing after the snap, where Hurts struggles to quickly work through progressions. His ball outside the numbers floats a bit too much, and that gets him into trouble with turnovers.

Hurts has the leadership to come in and ignite a locker room. If there’s a guy to bet on outside of the first round in the 2020 NFL Draft, it’s Hurts.
