Dallas Cowboys full 2020 NFL mock draft
Second Round
It may not feel like inside linebacker is a tremendous need for the Dallas Cowboys, but there are issues at the position. Leighton Vander Esch, who has been tremendous since being drafted in the first round in 2018, has had neck issues that have caused him to miss serious time.
Longtime starter Sean Lee is also back on a one-year deal, but he has a lengthy injury history and will turn 34 in July. There is a fit here between long term need and value which the Cowboys can fill by drafting Logan Wilson out of Wyoming.
Dallas will get a solid leader in Wilson, who was a three-time captain at Wyoming. Wilson also draws rave reviews for his excellent coverage skills which will be a help in a division with strong tight ends like Zach Ertz and Evan Engram.
The Cowboys would be able to rotate Wilson in more on passing downs as a rookie while grooming him to take over for Lee as soon as next season. Wilson’s presence would also give the Cowboys insurance in case Vander Esch’s neck problems recur in the future.
Grabbing a guy like Wilson may feel like a luxury here with Dallas having a need at receiver, but there is plenty of depth at the position for the Cowboys to grab another pass catcher later in the draft.
