1. TE Darren Fells

A career year doesn’t necessarily mean a player has had a breakout season. This offseason, there’s been an abundance of riches when it comes to tight ends moving around the league. Former Carolina Panthers’ standout Greg Olsen is now a member of the Seattle Seahawks, Austin Hooper signed with the Cleveland Browns, Tyler Eifert headed to Jacksonville and Jimmy Graham was released by the Packers and latched on with the Chicago Bears — to name a few.

But the Houston Texans didn’t let veteran Darren Fells hit the free-agent market. Known throughout his career as one of the better blocking players at his position, he blossomed as a pass-catcher in his first year with Bill O’Brien’s club. He set personal highs in catches (34), yards (341) and touchdown grabs (seven). In his first five seasons in the league with Cardinals, Lions and Browns, Fells reached the end zone 10 times in 70 regular-season outings.

While DeAndre Hopkins is now a member the Arizona Cardinals, a look at the Texans’ wide receiving corps shows a formidable quartet of Kenny Stills, Will Fuller, Randall Cobb and newly-acquired Brandin Cooks. But Fells gives Deshaun Watson a different option and could wind up being one of the big surprises around the league, especially if he picks up where he left off as a pass-catcher in 2019.
