5 teams that would likely get hacked during NFL Draft
By John Buhler
It’s not a ton of picks that leaves the Carolina Panthers potentially available to be hacked, it’s the change at the helm of the entire organization. Though general manager Marty Hurney is a familiar face from yesteryear, he’s not exactly a spring chicken. Regardless, this will be the first draft he’s working with Matt Rhule as the Panthers’ head coach. This is where it could go off the rails.
For Rhule, a longtime college coach at Baylor and Temple, this is untrodden territory for him in the NFL war room, especially one done in a virtual capacity. Though he worked for the New York Giants in 2012, it’s not like Rhule is dripping with a ton of draft experience. He and offensive coordinator Joe Brady may know all the players from recruitment, but this is an NFL Draft.
Not only is this their first NFL Draft in major positions of power in an organization, but to have this done virtually with Hurney being in another room and relatively new owner David Tepper in another, this could get pretty weird if they’re all not properly aligned. Even if this is Rhule’s first draft and it’s imperative he gets it right, that still doesn’t change their inherent vulnerability.
Let’s not throw any organizations under the bus here, but the Panthers have made a few enemies with teams and a few high-ranking members in said teams in recent years. No, we’re not going to call the Panthers incompetent because they are not, but there are too many new gears in the machine for it to be a well-oiled one come draft time. Carolina will be at a disadvantage here.
