2. Cornerback

Staying on the theme of highlighting past Cowboy draft picks who have become starters, we now hit another position the team has drafted very well in.

On the current roster, three starting cornerbacks were former draft picks by the Cowboys. Chidobe Awuzie in the second round of the 2017 draft, Jourdan Lewis was selected a round after Awuzie, and Anthony Brown was taken in the sixth round a year before both of them.

Another theme discussed so far has been former draft picks who have become starters and left. This can be applied to cornerback.

Byron Jones was a first-round pick in 2015. He was named to one Pro Bowl and played five years in Dallas.

Jones was the odd man out this past offseason. The team needed cap space to address other needs and to retain both Prescott and Amari Cooper. So, Jones left and signed with the Dolphins.

Mike Nolan does have Lewis, Awuzie and Brown to work with, and that is a nice trio. However, addressing the cornerback spot early in the draft is a must.

Those three will have to take on larger roles in 2020. Selecting a top corner to add to the mix would be beneficial.
