5. Cam Akers, Florida State

Florida State running back Cam Akers is a very well-rounded prospect. He was a highly sought after recruit coming out of high school and made an immediate impact as a freshman when he topped the 1,000-yard mark.

After a down sophomore season, he bounced back as a junior with 1,144 yards and 14 touchdowns. He did this while also rushing behind one of the worst offensive lines in the country.

He was forced to create from stacked boxes and poor blocking. The fact he managed five yards a carry is impressive. He did so because of his lateral agility skills and his toughness through contact. Akers would often have to work overtime to get past the line of scrimmage.

His vision runs hot and cold at times but Akers can get skinny through gaps to pick up yardage. He does bounce runs at times but that could be a habit he developed because he felt he had to. When he’s in space, Akers is tough to bring down with his combination of quickness, speed and power in his lower half.

Akers has the talent, and as long as he gets into a system that will work with him at the line of scrimmage, he will be effective. He needs to clean up a few things, mostly his patience at the line and a couple of concentration drops.
