NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings quarterback options that are actually realistic
4. Bryce Perkins
Like Patterson, Perkins is another quarterback who will be available on Day Three. Unlike Patterson, he’s a player who experienced a great deal of personal success during his collegiate career.
Perkins did everything for the Virginia offense once he was installed as its starting signal caller. He used his athleticism to make a ton of big plays happen out on the edge. In the pocket, his six-foot-three frame allowed him to see the entire field and take chances down the field.
The biggest weakness in Perkins’ game is that he’s too inaccurate with the football on all three levels of the field. He’ll need significant technique work at the next level. Fortunately for the Vikings, they have the time to bring Perkins along slowly.
There are also issues with his ability to read the defense quickly enough to make quick throws. Again, that’s something that should improve with professional coaching. The bottom line here is that Perkins is a plus athlete with the size you want at the quarterback position. If everything goes right for him he could turn into a high quality starter. That’s all you need to know about a potential Day 3 pick.
