NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings quarterback options that are actually realistic
3. Jordan Love
Love unquestionably deserves to be labeled as the most polarizing quarterback prospect in this year’s draft class. He’s got the arm talent to go in the top 10 of the first round. He’s also got the bust potential to get the General Manager who takes him that high fired for the choice.
That bust potential is why he only checks in at No. 3 on this list. There’s no way the Vikings should move up into the top 10 to take such a raw prospect. If, however, he slides down to them at No. 22 they should strongly consider snapping him up.
Love needs to fall into a situation like this to maximize his chances of success. He is not ready to play right away against an NFL defense. His throwing motion needs to get much more consistent before he’s able to fit the ball into the tight windows required to succeed at the pro level.
With that being said, it’s also possible he can grow into a Pro Bowl caliber player in a few seasons. That makes drafting him and putting him behind Cousins a really attractive option for Minnesota. He’ll require a ton of patience by the team that drafts him, but it could pay off massively for the Vikings when Cousins’ deal is up. Assume Love’s floor is at No. 22 to the Vikings.
