NFL Draft: Minnesota Vikings quarterback options that are actually realistic
1. Jacob Eason
Eason is another quarterback who will likely be available for the Vikings in Round 2. Unlike Hurts, he’s very similar in style to Cousins. He’s a prototypical pocket quarterback with the arm talent required to make every NFL throw.
If he was ready to play right away he’d be set to go in the top 10. His tape at Washington is too inconsistent to justify being drafted that high. Like Love, he needs some time in an NFL system before he’s ready to play meaningful snaps.
If a team can tighten up his technique, they’ll be rewarded with a quarterback who can stretch the field vertically at an elite level. Eason has an absolute cannon for an arm. He may never lead the NFL is completion percentage, but he’s a great fit for an offense that wants to push the ball down the field.
That upside makes drafting Eason the best option for the Vikings. He’ll require a relatively high draft pick, but they can still use their first rounders to fill more immediate needs. That’s crucial for a team that’s capable of winning now.
Securing Eason would also build a bridge for life after Cousins in Minnesota. Playing with a talented, but cheaper quarterback might end up giving the Vikings their best chance to win a Super Bowl in the future.
