3. Adrian Peterson will be marginalized

Peterson somehow managed to lead the Redskins in both carries and rushing yards last season during his age-34 season. He deserves a ton of credit for staying productive well past his prime, but his luck is going to run out in 2020.

Rivera is a coach that likes to play veterans, but he’s not going to give Peterson carries over at the expense of younger backs who might be a part of this team’s future corps. Derrius Guice and Bryce Love are both going to get more touches than Peterson when all is said and done with the 2020 regular season.

The challenge for Peterson will be handling a reduced workload with maturity. He’s struggled to walk that tight rope during his career. Rivera will need to keep a close eye on how Peterson interacts with his teammates in the locker room if his carries drop.

This could easily be the last season we see Peterson play a significant role for an NFL team. He shouldn’t get anywhere near 200 carries in 2020. If he gets 100 carries it likely means the Redskins are disappointed with their younger options at running back.
