Of course, they’d end up being the No. 1 team here. The Miami Dolphins have everything the Lions could ever want out of a trade partner and then some. Miami is already picking at No. 5, but the Dolphins will want to ensure that the Los Angeles Chargers picking a spot behind them at No. 6 don’t leapfrog them. Fortunately for Miami, no team has more draft capital than the Dolphins.

Miami has three first-round picks in the 2020 NFL Draft: Their own at No. 5, the Pittsburgh Steelers’ at No. 18 from the Minkah Fitzpatrick trade and the Houston Texans at No. 26 from the Laremy Tunsil deal. To move down two spots, pick up No. 18 and No. 26 and still grab Jeffrey Okudah at No. 5, why would you not do this deal if you’re the Lions?

If for some reason those three picks don’t move the needle for Lions to get off the No. 3 pick, Miami has their first-round pick next year, as well as the Texans’ who Stepien-ed themselves by giving up back-to-back first-round picks for Tunsil. If the Dolphins think Tua Tagovailoa or Justin Herbert can be their next Dan Marino, you absolutely give up the farm to get that quarterback.

Ultimately, the Lions can get the most and move down the least if they strike up a deal with the Dolphins for the No. 3 pick. The Lions hold all the power here because while Okudah is a great prospect, he’s not Chase Young and he’s not a quarterback. They have so much leverage here with one pick, it’s crazy. Miami can win the bidding war because the Dolphins have the most capital.
