Boston Bruins

Much like the Penguins, the Boston Bruins have been beasts in the East for the majority of the last decade. Unlike the Penguins, the Bruins have done so with an embarrassment of riches on the back end.

As time has gone on, players like Johnny Boychuk and Dennis Seidenberg have given way to the likes of Torey Krug and Charlie McAvoy. Some things just stay the same however, like Zdeno Chara who at age 43 is entering his 13th season in Boston and still as effective as ever.

The Bruins are stacked on defense, so why would they be in the market for Byfuglien? The Bruins may have some potential key departures on the blueline this offseason.

Krug, Chara and Matt Grzelcyk are all on expiring deals. It’s safe to say that if Chara returns for another season, it’d be with the Bruins, but it’s not unreasonable to assume that they could get priced out of a potential bidding war on Krug if it comes to that.

Byfuglien would be a nice replacement for Krug, and more importantly provides a stop gap for the Bruins as McAvoy, Brandon Carlo, Jeremy Lauzon and Jakub Zboril all mature into the elite defensemen they are destined to become.
