2020 NFL Mock Draft: Tua Tagovailoa goes to the Colts
By Conor Dorney
A team that has traded as much secondary talent as the Jags have in the past six months can’t come out of the first round without some help at the position. Southern Illinois’ Jeremy Chinn has shades of Derwin James to his game and would be a great fit for the Jags as the look to rebuild the back end of their defense.
Pick from the alternate universe: K’Lavon Chaisson
*projected trade w/ Philadelphia*
After trading back, former offensive lineman Joe Douglas sees the immense potential of USC’s Austin Jackson and takes him with the 21st pick in round one. Jackson is one of the youngest players in the class and, by all accounts, a great kid off the field. He heads to New York to reunite with and protect the blindside of former teammate, Sam Darnold.
Pick from the alternate universe: Henry Ruggs III
The Vikings are pinching themselves as they watch K’Lavon Chaisson fall to them with this pick. Chaisson has huge upside but disappointing production and injuries may push him further down the board than people expect.
Pick from the alternate universe: Josh Jones
There’s a chance Belichick shocks everyone and goes with Tua here but I think adding help on the offensive line is more likely. Michigan’s Cesar Ruiz is a perfect fit in the Patriots’ offensive scheme and could slot in to play guard if Joe Thuney is traded at some point during the draft.
Pick from the alternate universe: Brandon Aiyuk
As much as I’d like to give the Saints a wide receiver (Arizona State’s Brandon Aiyuk) or cornerback (Clemson’s A.J. Terrell, LSU’s Kristian Fulton), I’ll instead go with Drew Brees’ successor. Sean Payton was reportedly enamored with Patrick Mahomes back in 2017 and while Love is nowhere near that level, the tools are certainly there.
Learning from Payton and Brees is about as good of a situation for Love’s development as you can draw up.
Pick from the alternate universe: Kristian Fulton
