2. Alvin Kamara’s workload will increase drastically

Kamara and the Saints are heading towards one of the most interesting contract standoffs in recent memory. Smart teams don’t give running backs big contracts in the modern NFL. Kamara and his representatives will argue that his value as a receiver transcends the position.

The odds are stacked heavily against Kamara and the team inking a new, long-term extension before the regular season begins. To put it another way, the Saints will feel no pressure to limit Kamara’s workload to make sure he can extend the prime of his career.

That means he should be poised to see a big uptick on the 171 carries he got in 14 games last year. Don’t be surprised if that number swells to 250 if the Saints need to maximize their regular season win total to secure home field advantage in the playoffs.

His catches out of the backfield certainly won’t decline. Kamara will add at least 80 more touches to his workload via the pass. Add it all up and Kamara will be one of the most heavily used backs in the NFL in 2020. That’s great news for his fantasy owners but not great for his longevity in the league.
