Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Texas. 59. S. Brandon Jones. 70. player

Brandon Jones is another versatile piece being added to an improved Dolphins defense. He has the ability to play as a free safety in the middle of the field or in the box.

“I’m not the biggest dude out there, but in my mindset I’m going to get into the backfield to be successful,” said Jones.

The safety was a  second-team All-Big 12 team selection in 2019 aafter he had 86 tackles, 4.5 for loss, one sack, two interceptions, and four pass breakups last season. He will join a somewhat crowded backfield and will have to compete for his playing time.

Jones, with a solid offseason, may be able to slide in as the depth free safety behind Adrian Colbert. His more immediate impact will have to come on special teams though, were he can make his mark and a case for getting more playing time on defense.

Coming from New England, Brian Flores surely values versatility and special teams ability, making Brandon Jones the perfect pick for him out of Texas. A shoulder injury that kept Jones on the sideline at the NFL Combine is the biggest question mark surrounding the safety. It looks like he will be ready to go though.
