Matt Peart. 892. Scouting Report. OT. Connecticut. 99. player. Pick Analysis

After picking a hog molly at the top of the draft Dave Gettleman grabs another in UConn tackle Matt Peart. The tape offers a ton of promise for Peart, who was a team captain for the Huskies and can play at either tackle spot.

One thing that Peart has in spades is size, with a 6-7, 318-pound frame that is unteachable. Peart also has some good speed as well for his size, so there is a projectable upside here for the Giants to unlock.

The reason Peart wasn’t a first-round pick is that he needs work on his technique, notably improving his hand placement in pass protection. The good thing for the Giants is that he doesn’t have to play right away with Andrew Thomas and Nate Solder set to start at the tackle spots in 2020.

The idea here is that Peart is the long-term replacement for Solder, who could be cut as soon as after this season. If Gettleman manages to find the Giants’ bookend tackles for the next decade in this class that is a huge win.
