Rookie Running Back Rankings – Tier 3

13. Eno Benjamin, Arizona State – Cardinals (7.08)

5’9″ 207lbs, 4.57 40yd

Eno Benjamin was unimpressive in the 40 yard dash, but put up good agility and jumping measurements. I was hoping he was able to run close to what Darrynton Evans did though. I cannot see him carving out a role as anything more than a pass-catching satellite back. He was extremely productive at Arizona State, amassing 35 or more receptions in his sophomore and junior seasons. He commanded a 14.4% target share in his senior season, competing with other high level athletes. Duke Johnson is a great comp. Kenyan Drake is the Cardinals best back.

14. Pete Guerriero, Monmouth – (Undrafted)

5’10” 190lbs

Had Guerriero been able to showcase his talents at a pro day, Guerriero would have been drafted. The trackster from Monmouth chose to enter the NFL Draft after 3 incredibly productive years. He is explosive, but lacks size. Picture a Tarik Cohen athlete with better size. He is currently mulling over offers with his agent. He will go to what he believes to be his best fit.

15. Raymond Calais, Louisiana – Buccaneers (7.31)

5’8” 177lbs, 4.42 40yd

His measurables are enticing, and the situation is intriguing. He averaged over 8 yards per rush attempt at Louisiana over his junior and senior season. I trust Arians to use Calais appropriately in this explosive offense. He is too small for anything more than a creative roll.

16. DeeJay Dallas, Miami – Seahawks (4.38)

5’10” 217lbs, 4.58 40yd

Dallas has the size to be a three down back in the league. He lacks elite speed and athleticism, but can carve out a role on Seattle. It’s a crowded backfield that typically employs the hot hand approach. His fantasy upside is limited in Seattle.

17. Rico Dowdle, South Carolina – Cowboys (Undrafted)

5’11” 213lbs, 4.54 40yd

Dowdle has the size, speed and athleticism to be a 3 down running back in the NFL. He had a very good combine, but his numbers at South Carolina were less impressive. His issue has been staying healthy. He missed some time in each of his 4 seasons at South Carolina. Injuries likely led to him not being drafted. He is the 3rd best running back in Dallas.
