2. Cam Akers will rush for over 1,000 yards

The fact that the Rams spent a second-round pick on Akers makes it obvious that they expect him to assume a heavy chunk of work at running back this year. He’s got the talent to turn that opportunity into a gigantic rookie season.

Akers has a lot of natural talent, but he didn’t get a lot of help during his collegiate career at Florida State. He showed flashes of brilliance for the Seminoles, but the team’s dysfunction made it very difficult for him to establish consistency on the ground.

Look for him to seize the starting running back role for the Rams early in the 2020 regular season. He’s got the perfect combination of size and speed to flourish under McVay’s watchful eye. He isn’t going to be the next Todd Gurley, but he can be an above-average starter for the Rams right away.

The team’s desire to lessen the pressure on Goff also means they’ll put a renewed emphasis on their ground game. That should allow Akers to break the 1,000 yard mark on the strength of over 200 carries. The former Florida State star might be the most productive rookie running back in the NFL next season.
