Wisconsin basketball: 3 starting lineup options for 2020-21 season
Worst-case scenario
- Guard: Jonathan Davis
- Guard: Davison
- Forward: Wahl
- Forward: Ford
- Center: Reuvers
Just like with the middle-of-the-road scenario, Wahl starts at the three in this lineup while Ford takes over at the four with Potter being the first guy off of the bench. That’s a strong group, especially with Davison still manning one of the guard spots. For as much controversy as he draws nationally, he’s the lifeblood of the Badgers in the locker room and is a tenacious, effective two-way player for this team.
However, the big change here is incoming freshman combo guard Jonathan Davis taking over at the other guard spot. Make no mistake, Davis is a talented player who, in the right role for Wisconsin, could give the Badgers a real spark in the 2020-21 season. He was Mr. Basketball in the state of Wisconsin, he has the potential to be another two-way player that offers a ton on the perimeter with his defense and ability to drive and score.
The reason this is the worst-case scenario, though, is the simple fact that Wisconsin’s biggest strength going into the upcoming season is going to be their continuity and experience. So if Davis is forced to take over the starting job for one reason or another, that either means Trice simply isn’t contributing at the level he should be or Gard is sacrificing that continuity for individual upside. Either way, that could have sour repercussions for the Badgers.
