4. Daniel Jones proves he’s the future

Dave Gettleman took a lot of criticism after he selected Daniel Jones with the No. 6 overall pick in last year’s NFL Draft. After his rookie season, Jones silenced a lot of those critics with a satisfying first campaign.

When you play well enough to oust a two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback, you have positioned yourself for future success. That is what Jones did after Eli Manning was benched.

Manning was at the end of his rope, yes. But Jones coming in and making plays right away forced Shurmur to make the move permanent.

In his first start, Jones led the Giants to a win. He threw for 336 yards and accounted for four touchdowns. As expected, he did have some growing pains. Especially when it came to protecting the football.

In his final seven games, Jones completed over 62 percent of his throws with a 95.4 quarterback rating. He threw for 1,883 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Fumbling the football was Jones’ largest pitfall with 18 fumbles in 13 games. If he betters that area in 2020, there is no doubt he is the guy under center for the Giants.

Playing with a bad offensive line in his first year in the NFL he complied a final stat line of 3,027 yards with 24 touchdown throws and 12 interceptions. He also had two rushing scores.

With more certainty surrounding the team with a new head coach and better players lined up with him, Jones can make a statement in 2020.
