3. CB Quinton Dunbar

The Seahawks acquired Quinton Dunbar from the Washington Redskins for a 2020 fifth-round pick about a month ago. The defensive back was looking for a fresh start and was rewarded with a perfect opportunity in Seattle’s secondary.

Dunbar is coming off a career year in Washington after quarterbacks had a rating of just 56.9 when targeting the cornerback, according to PFF. The site also credited the former undrafted free agent with an 89.5 coverage grade in 2019.

The standard comparison Dunbar has received since being traded to Seattle has been former Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman. The cornerback possesses a similar frame to Sherman, standing 6-foot-2 and weighing 202 pounds (Sherman is 6-foot-3, 195 pounds). Both cornerbacks were originally wide receivers in college (Sherman moved over to the defense for his final two collegiate seasons).

The fit in Seattle and having a head coach that’s specialized in coaching defensive backs offers Dunbar a considerable advantage taking the next leap in his career. Dunbar will be competing with Tre Flowers for the right outside cornerback position, but his superior production in coverage should propel him into the starting gig.

Entering a contract year, Dunbar will be motivated more than ever to establish himself in the league and become a core piece in the Seahawks’ secondary.
