2021 NFL Draft: 5 teams that are perfect fits for Ohio State’s Justin Fields

Admittedly, it’s a long shot, but imagining Fields in black and yellow is something you don’t want to get out of your head once it’s there. The Pittsburgh Steelers know the clock is ticking on Big Ben. Roethlisberger is minutes to midnight on his illustrious NFL career. He’s a lock for the Pro Football Hall of Fame, but the Steelers know they need a succession plan beyond what they have.

If the Steelers want to roll with Mason Rudolph and/or Devlin Hodges into the mid-2020s, but our guest. But that’s just going to end up being a lot of 21st century Bubby Brister or Neil O’Donnell nonsense. It’ll be fine, but the Steelers aren’t taking home Lombardi Trophy No. 7 with either guy. The guy who can do that for them is Fields, and he already plays in that part of the country.

Fields stars at the flagship university of the state two of Pittsburgh’s biggest rivals call home. With no shot to be a Bengal, Brown or Raven, the Steel City would have to do for Fields if he is to play in the AFC North. The question is if the Steelers will be in the position to draft Fields next year. No, they won’t, but general manager Kevin Colbert needs to do more than shrug at replacing Big Ben.

With Fields, head coach Mike Tomlin could coach well into his 60s with the Steelers if he felt like it. You cannot ask for that type of job security, but he’d have it with this young phenom quarterback. The Steelers are one of the most popular teams in the NFL, so they’ll always be relevant. But should they land Fields, a new generation of Steelers fans will be slinging Terrible Towels.
