5 predictions to bank on for the New York Jets in 2020
3. Sam Darnold proves he can play
We have yet to see Sam Darnold healthy for a full season. He has played 26 career games, 13 a piece in each of his two seasons. That has to change, and it has a real possibility of doing so with a better offensive line in 2020. In his career, he has been sacked 63 times.
Darnold is still only 22 years old. He will be 23 this year. The potential is still there, and he has shown flashes of how great he can be throughout his brief career.
2020 is the year Darnold finally takes a step. Not that he hasn’t made progress in his first two years, but he has been inconsistent. This season should be different.
In 2018, Darnold was just a 21-year-old rookie. He had some good and some bad and suffered an injury. Last season, he got sick and dealt with a poor offensive line. Again, he was not fully healthy.
This season, Darnold will be a third-year starter poised for a breakout. We could finally see a 30+ touchdown, 3,700+ yard campaign from him.
Yes, Robby Anderson left. Denzel Mims was taken in the second round of the draft, which gives Darnold another target. Cuts around the league will also be made, offering more opportunities to fill the corps.
Let’s not forget Le’Veon Bell is still in the backfield, and he can do big things in his second year with the Jets.
