4. Matt Breida

Trading a fifth round pick for Breida didn’t light up NFL news cycles during the draft, but it could turn into a really shrewd acquisition by the Dolphins front office. He was quietly very productive in a very crowded San Francisco backfield in 2019.

Miami’s offense would love to see Breida give them 5.1 yards per carry again this season. As a point of reference, the team’s leading rusher was Fitzpatrick with a grand total of 243 yards lat season. The Dolphins couldn’t even find a running back on the roster worth giving more than 74 carries to over the full 16-game slate.

Clearly, Breida will struggle to match the efficiency he demonstrated with the 49ers with a weaker offensive line in front of him. The bar isn’t going to be set high for him though. He just needs to be a decent starter at the running back position to completely change the complexion of the Dolphins’ offense.

Breida isn’t going to absorb 250+ carries to become a premier NFL back, but he can give this offense a significant lift. At the very least, he should be able to give the Dolphins a running back that can produce over 500 yards on the ground in 2020.
