College football rankings: Clemson, Ohio State, Alabama top spring Top 25
20. North Carolina Tar Heels
This might seem odd considering that the Tar Heels went just 7-6 in Mack Brown‘s first season back in Chapel Hill. But when you also take into account that the team’s losses were by a combined 26 points, it’s hard not to be high on North Carolina. Quarterback Sam Howell should be garnering some legit Heisman buzz as UNC might be the favorite to win the ACC Coastal in 2020.
19. Iowa State Cyclones
If there’s one thing that could hinder Matt Campbell’s Cyclones from making a nice run this season, it’s rebuilding the offensive line almost entirely. Even still, quarterback Brock Purdy has proven he can get it done at this level while running back Breece Hall has breakout potential and the defense returns a solid core group.
18. Michigan Wolverines
As if there weren’t already enough questions about the Wolverines under Jim Harbaugh, they now have a brewing quarterback battle between Joe Milton and Dylan McCaffrey. Either way, it’s clear that Michigan isn’t at the level of their biggest rivals, Ohio State, and may not even be a top-five team in the Big Ten overall if they can’t find something new on offense.
17. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Chuba Hubbard electing to return to Stillwater after leading all of college football with 2,094 rushing yards was a huge boost for the Cowboys. But now that quarterback Spencer Sanders has a year of experience, Oklahoma State could be one of the most dangerous offenses in the country under the watch of Mike Gundy, especially if wide receiver Tylan Wallace can be a star once again.
16. Texas A&M Aggies
Jimbo Fisher’s Aggies undoubtedly weren’t done any favors by their schedule in 2019 as they faced two College Football Playoff teams (LSU and Clemson) in addition to Georgia, Auburn and Alabama. With the schedule lightening up this year and Kellen Mond returning for his third season at the helm of the Texas A&M offense, we could see a resurgence out of College Station.
