4. Cardinals vs. Royals

A shocker to some, but the Kansas City Royals actually do play in Missouri. So, it would make a potential matchup with the Cardinals an intriguing one. This one gets on the list not because of the competitiveness it could present, or lack thereof, but rather an intriguing matchup that hasn’t been seen too often over the years.

As mentioned in the last slide, if the league is trying to cut down on air travel this season, then they may more frequently schedule games between teams in driving distance. A three-and-a-half hour drive is all that separates Busch Stadium from Kauffman Stadium.

St. Louis is certainly a team on the way up, coming off a 91-win season and NLCS appearance. On the other hand, the Royals are coming off back-to-back 100-plus loss seasons. So, this matchup will certainly be a bit more one sided than most others.

Regardless of that, the most intriguing part of realignment is seeing matchups that many fans may not have seen too often over the years. This matchup certainly fits that bill and it could a fresh feeling for fans to see some new teams on the schedule in 2020.
