Dallas Cowboys: vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The NFC East has been a two-team race for the past two years with the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles jousting for divisional supremacy. Last season was entirely one-sided in favor of the Eagles, who swept Dallas to clinch the NFC East with a 9-7 record.

The Cowboys responded to the disappointing finish by firing Jason Garrett and hiring Mike McCarthy as his replacement. McCarthy brings a wealth of playoff experience to Dallas after his tremendous run in Green Bay, which included a win in Super Bowl XLV.

The hope in Dallas is that McCarthy will be able to get more out of a supremely talented roster than Garrett did. That is a reasonable expectation, but it won’t matter if the Cowboys can’t take care of the Eagles again this season.

The Cowboys’ 2019 season really turned when they lost at home to the Eagles on a Sunday night matchup, setting the stage for a miserable second half. There is no doubt that McCarthy will be waiting for the schedule to come out so he can highlight the two Eagles matchups on his calendar.

The most important job Dallas can do is defend AT&T Stadium against the Eagles, ensuring at least a season split against Philadelphia. That game will likely be in primetime again so the Cowboys will have a big stage to pick up their most important win of the year.
