5 players who Colts need to be great in 2020
1. QB Philip Rivers
As with pretty much any contender, the Indianapolis Colts need great quarterback play to achieve their goals in 2020. This year those responsibilities fall to Philip Rivers, who left the Chargers for a one-year, $25 million deal to start in Indy.
The Colts got some good performances from Jacoby Brissett early in the season, but he started to struggle in the middle of the year. A rash of injuries at the skill positions didn’t help, but Brissett’s ineffectiveness left the Colts in need of an upgrade.
Rivers, who is coming off his worst season, has a great chance to be exactly that. The Chargers asked a ton out of Rivers last year and he forced the issue a lot, leading to a ton of interceptions that short-circuited the Los Angeles offense.
Indianapolis actually provides an ideal situation for Rivers, who will be well-protected, surrounded with good weapons and not asked to carry the team by himself. Rivers will need to play better than Brissett did and find a little bit of his old magic on occasion to help the Colts get past the Houston Texans and Tennessee Titans to win the AFC South.
