Scouting Report. 43. Minor Leagues. Estevan Florial. 2. player. Pick Analysis. OF

Despite it being a small possibility, it’s hard to imagine Aaron Judge not being a Yankee. Assuming Judge will remain a Yankee past his arbitration years, and Aaron Hicks locked up until 2027, Florial is going to be battling with Mike Tauchman, Clint Frazier, and even Tyler Wade for an outfield spot.

And this is all with Florial not playing a game at Double-A yet.

Florial has played 170 games at High-A Tampa – 74 last year, and 75 the year before. Of course, the Yankees have their own intentions with him, but the fact that he’s been at Tampa full time for two years is certainly telling.

Remember Jorge Mateo? James Kaprelian? Chance Adams? Rob Refsnyder? Justus Sheffield?

The Yankees prospect hugged for years. The five names just listed were the future of the Yankees.

They played a combined 113 games with the Yankees – Refsnyder played in 94 of those.

These prospects are simply that – prospects. There is no guarantee that they become anything.

Of course, every big leaguer was a prospect at some point in their careers. Hell, Dominic Brown was ranked ahead of Mike Trout once.

But is hanging on to a prospect that hasn’t played in Trenton something that a World Series favorite should do?
