4. Bernard King

Most folks likely think of King playing in Madison Square Garden as the star of the New York Knicks. In fact, the Warriors were King’s third NBA team, having been traded from the New Jersey Nets and the Utah Jazz who traded him to Golden State before the 1980-81 season.

In King’s first season as a Warrior, he recaptured his 20-points-per game touch and was named to his first all-star team in 1982. In just two short seasons, King averaged an impressive 22.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game. What’s impressive is his 57.7 percent efficiency as a 6’7’’ small forward who rarely shot 3-pointers. With his efficiency and playmaking, his 3.3 turnovers per game as a Warrior were tolerable.

King was traded to the Knicks in 1982 for all-star guard Michael Ray Richardson and a fifth-round pick. While King ascended to a Hall of Fame career, Richardson lasted 33 games and didn’t complete the 1982-83 season with the Warriors before shipping him to the Nets for Sleepy Floyd and Mickey Johnson. It’s safe to say the Bernard King trade didn’t work out as well for the Warriors as the Price trade.
