WR Jimmy Smith (1995-05)

We’ll stick with the offense here as we unveil the next member of the Jaguars’ Mount Rushmore, wide receiver Jimmy Smith. A seldom-used reserve on the Dallas Cowboys’ first two Super Bowl championship teams in the early ’90s, Smith found himself out of football before a fateful tryout for the Jacksonville Jaguars in February of 1995.

Head coach Tom Coughlin was impressed with Smith and insisted that the Jaguars sign him to a contract. Smith rewarded his coach’s faith by turning into one of the best wide receivers in football and emerging as Mark Brunell’s go-to guy.

The Jaguars paired Smith with Keenan McCardell to terrorize opposing offenses in the AFC Central, with Smith proving to be the more electrifying pass catcher of the pair. Smith’s most brilliant season came in 1999 when he caught 116 passes for 1,636 yards and six touchdowns as the Jaguars went 14-2.

During his 11 seasons in Jacksonville, Smith racked up nine 1,000-yard seasons and put his name all over the Jaguars’ record books. In 2016, Smith was inducted into the Pride of the Jaguars, the franchise’s Ring of Honor, and now can add the franchise’s official Mount Rushmore to his resume.
